Burned Remains Identified as Missing San Antonio 20-year-old

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio family has appealed for a killer to come forward after a missing young woman was found burned beyond recognition Tuesday.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said on Friday that the burning human remains found in Atascosa belonged to 20-year-old Meagan Elizabeth Gonzales.

Salazar said Gonzales had been reported missing on November 15 after she was last seen on November 11. The San Antonio Police Department was handling the search for Gonzales, but Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputies found the remains.

The sheriff said his department was treating the case as a homicide.

Investigators called Meagan’s father Eddie on Friday afternoon to update him on his daughter who he had reported missing almost a month earlier.

First responders were summoned to the 12000 block of Wisdom Road around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday following reports about a possible burning body. At the time, they were unable to determine the age or gender of the individual.

Eddie said he suspected something was amiss when his daughter didn’t answer her phone and there were no signs of activity on her bank account.

He said people had told his family various stories about Meagan’s whereabouts, but the last time he saw her, she was leaving his house in her pickup truck.

Police found Meagan’s vehicle abandoned. Salazar said the sheriff’s office had persons of interest in the case, but he could not release any further details.

Meanwhile, Eddie said he hoped whoever killed his daughter would be brave enough to admit what they did.

The sheriff’s office is working with Crime Stoppers to determine what happened to the young woman. Anyone who has knowledge of Meagan’s disappearance and death has been asked to contact BCSO or Crime Stoppers.
